Colorado honors your license through its portability program: an active license plus 3 of the last 5 years in practice, with no law exam and no fingerprints. The unusual catch: any current discipline, even a conditional license, disqualifies you from the endorsement route entirely (the exam-method application is the fallback). A new law effective January 2027 orders the board to streamline endorsement even further.

Working in Colorado without a Colorado license

For visits or one-time work Nothing short of the full license: no temporary or courtesy permits for civilians (military spouses get a 3-year fee-waived temporary license). The consolation is that the full endorsement is cheap, exam-free, and fingerprint-free.

For remote care Colorado license required, and the vet-client relationship must start with an in-person exam or premises visit (a remote-VCPR bill died in committee in 2025). Tele-advice and teletriage are fine without one.

Watch out in Colorado

Any current discipline, restriction, or conditional license anywhere blocks the endorsement route.
Everyone renews October 31 of even years; a license issued within 120 days of that date rolls to the next cycle.
Passed your boards before late 2000? You'll need to dig up both NBE and CCT scores.

After you are licensed

Renew every 2 years by October 31 of even years. CE is 32 hours including 2 on Colorado law, 1 on substance-use prevention, and (new) 2 on supervision, since Colorado now registers midlevel Veterinary Professional Associates, the first state to do so.
Telehealth needs the Colorado license and the vet-client relationship must start in person; a remote-VCPR bill failed in 2025.
No facility permit, but every premises with patients needs a designated responsible veterinarian.
