Kentucky's rewritten practice act endorses vets after just one year's practice (from equal-or-higher-standard states), scores never expire, and the law exam is take-home and open book. Best of all, the statute itself lets you work under a Kentucky vet's supervision for up to 90 days while your application processes, as long as you name the employer and supervisor on the form. The trade-offs: an FBI fingerprint check with channelers banned, paper-only applications, and fees climbing on a published escalator.

Working in Kentucky without a Kentucky license

For visits or one-time work Kentucky's bridge is the best-designed here: name your employer and a supervising Kentucky vet in your application and work under supervision for up to 90 days while it processes. No separate permit or fee.

For remote care Kentucky credential required for every form of telehealth into the state, including VCPR-free teleadvice and teletriage, and telemedicine requires association with a registered Kentucky facility. The relationship itself needs an in-person exam within the past 12 months, re-established annually.

Watch out in Kentucky

Endorsement is frozen while ANY investigation is pending against you anywhere, until it concludes.
FBI channelers are banned; use the FBI's own online or mail process, which is slower than applicants expect.
Fees are on an escalator: renewal jumped to $495 in July 2026 and hits $550 in 2028; reinstatement is $775 and rising.
Licensed just before an even-year September 30? Your first renewal is halved or waived, so no double-pay.

After you are licensed

Renew every 2 years by September 30 of even years. CE is 30 hours with at least 15 live and 2 on pharmacy, controlled substances, or law.
Kentucky now registers veterinary FACILITIES too ($550 new, $200 renewals), and telemedicine practitioners must associate with one.
Military get the best deal anywhere: application, exam, and renewals all waived for active duty.
